Arab Baths of Jaén, beneath the Villadompardo Palace

The Arab Baths of Jaén lie in the palace cellars, covering 450 m²—among Spain’s largest. Also called Hammam al-Walad, they date to 1002 CE with Almohad restorations.

Structure

Classic layout: vestibule, cold room, warm room and hot steam room, lit by star-shaped skylights.

History & Rediscovery

Functioned until the 15th c., then buried under the Villadompardo Palace until rediscovered in 1913 and restored by 1984.
