Valdebebas Felipe VI Forest Park: Madrid’s Largest Urban Park Shaped Like a Giant Tree

The Parque Forestal de Valdebebas Felipe VI spans 470 ha in northeast Madrid’s Hortaleza district. Designed in the silhouette of a tree—trunk, branches and canopy—it serves as the city’s green lung.
Tree Structure
The “root” is a retention pond; the “trunk” consists of tree-lined avenues; and the “branches” fan out as paths and gentle hills studded with 300 000 trees.
Five Spanish Landscapes
- Mediterranean scrub: holm oaks and aromatic shrubs.
- High-mountain pine: Scots pines and heath.
- Manchegan dehesa: cereal clearings and aromatic herbs.
- Ibérico juniper woods: junipers and box shrubs.
- Central System oak groves: resin pines and broom.
Water Management & Activities
Irrigation uses reclaimed water. Family fun includes giant slides, ziplines and inclusive playgrounds. Guided tours, citizen tree-planting events and workshops make it a living campus of nature.
With 32 km of walking trails and 5 km of bike lanes, Valdebebas Forest Park invites you to lace up your sneakers and explore Madrid’s grandest urban oasis.
